Easter Basket Ideas for Food Allergies

I remember getting Easter baskets filled with chocolates and sweet treats as a kid that my mom put together with so much love and care, but I wouldn’t be able to consume an Easter basket like that today.

Living with a food allergy has made me realize that creating Easter baskets for individuals with food allergies requires some extra thought and consideration to ensure they are enjoyable and safe for each individual. Here are some ideas for Easter baskets tailored to those with food allergies:

  1. Non-Food Treats:
    • Sure, kids love candy but they love other things almost just as much! You could add things like small toys, puzzles, coloring books, crayons, stickers, bubbles, or stuffies to the mix. Age-appropriate gifts like action figures, dolls, gift cards or building blocks could also be included if you have children that are a little older.
  2. Allergy-Friendly Snacks:
    • While living with a food allergy can be extremely difficult, having access to the internet really has made it easier. You can find tons of treats for specific allergies that are labeled as allergy-friendly. If you can tolerate sugar free items, my favorite choice is always Choc Zero Products.
  3. Homemade Treats:
    • Bake allergy-friendly treats at home using alternative ingredients. There are many recipes available for allergen-free cookies, cupcakes, or snack bars.
    • If you package them in decorative bags or boxes they can be really cute and don’t forget to include ingredient labels for added safety.
  4. Craft Supplies:
    • Include craft supplies like markers, paints, glue, and construction paper for creative Easter-themed projects.
    • There are also lots of craft kits or DIY projects that can add some fun creativity projects to the day. I really love the craft products from OOLY.
  5. Books:
    • Books are always a great hit for kids of all ages and you can choose something for any specific topic they might be interested in. If you aren’t sure what they like you could include a gift card or choose your own adventure at the bookstore coupon in the gift basket.
  6. Outdoor Activities:
    • If your kids love sports and outdoor activities include sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, frisbees, athletic gear, or things like gardening items if they like to garden.
  7. Gift Cards or Coupons:
    • Gift cards are always a good alternative, especially if you have children that are a little older. Choose a gift card from their favorite store so they can choose their own items or create coupons for special activities to do with them.
  8. Personalized Items:
    • Personalized gifts are always a hit especially if they need a new backpack or lunch bag you can find some really cute monogrammed things online. Etsy is a good resource for finding specific characters for personalized items as well.

When assembling the Easter basket, be sure to double-check ingredient labels and ensure that all items are safe for the individual’s specific allergies. Additionally, consider any other dietary restrictions or preferences they may have to create a thoughtful and enjoyable Easter surprise.
