I love kiwi and was so happy to learn that I could eat it when I was diagnosed with CSID in 2020. CSID, or congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, is a rare genetic disorder characterized by a deficiency of the sucrase-isomaltase (SI) enzyme complex within the brush border membrane of the small intestine. This basically means that a lot of food becomes off limits unless you take a medication like Sucraid to help you process and digest the food.
Okay, so now that you know a little more about CSID, let’s get back to kiwi!
Kiwi has so many amazing health benefits, and it tastes delicious. It’s an exceptional source of vitamin C. A single kiwi provides more than your daily recommended intake of this vitamin, which boosts your immune system, promotes healthy and glowing skin, and aids in wound healing.
It’s also a rich source of dietary fiber, making it an excellent choice for digestive health. It boasts a combination of soluble and insoluble fiber to help regulate digestion, prevent constipation, and promote feeling full (which can help with weight management.)
The kiwi is also an excellent choice for those suffering from blood pressure issues and heart disease since it has a high potassium content that can help regulate these areas.
